A possible sale of Portugal Telecom’s stake in the Brazilian mobile operator Vivo to Telefonica is not likely to face major regulatory challenges in Brazil, telecom specialist lawyers consulted by this news service agreed.
Guilherme Ieno from Koury Lopes Advogados, says that CADE would have no trouble in approving the sale, as long as Telefonica respects its recent agreement with CADE and leaves TIM running independently.
“If Telefonica goes after both the direct control of TIM and Vivo then it would be a problem,” Ieno said.
