The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) changed its internal rules to allow the virtual judgment of all procedures. In cases in which there is a legal provision, those who wish to present oral arguments will have to send a filled-in digitally signed form, with the audio or video of the oral arguments up to 48 hours before the court session.

The change in the internal regulations also allows oral arguments, via videoconference, in regular court sessions. In this case, the counsels must also register up to 48 hours before the day of the court session.

The measures are intended to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19). However, since they are permanent measures, they end up restraining the rights of the defendant. After all, the recording of an oral argument is not able to answer any questions that the Justices may have about the case.
